By Ratna bhusana dasaAbout 50 - 75 souls, hungry and eager for the Lord's mercy chanted and danced. A simple feast of dahl and rice and HG Ratna Bhusana Prabhu's famous cookies filled all's stomach. While the procession was not a long distance and everything was very simple, I feel the efforts of all involved and all those that attended were the true offering.
By Mayesvara dasaThis is just a general news release informing all our local friends and supporters of a very unusual appearance of Lord Jagannatha in the Ojai Community.

Malati Mataji:
Dayaram Prabhu:
The first 30 to 60 minutes were pretty dry. The spot has some pretty down and out people. Gradually some were taking and as I got rolling the donations were OK.
After a few days of rain and meeting devotees, I managed to get out again today. At first now even the down and outs were there, but it picked up. I kept praying to Lord Nityananda, who is the only hope for me, and for the fallen souls. My mind was distracted after talking to two devotees who previously distributed many books. One wants nothing to do with devotees. The other wants to be with devotees but somehow is not allowed to distribute books, although he can collect laxmi very strongly. Gradually I focused on how much the conditioned souls need books and was happy even if somone just touched the books. One crazy drunk tried to talk one nice boy out of taking the book, but somehow he wanted KRSNA. Then one nice businessman started chanting Hare Krsna and was very much interested. He wanted the books and gave 10,000 yen (about 90 US dollars). I asked him where he learned the mantra and he said "Boy George". Bow down mister! That is for me. we are not the doers.
Lord Caitanya always shows me how much He wants the books distributed. The are no material solutions and there are no material impediments.

Boy George charged with false imprisonment…
All too often, many devotees engage in this weird ritual of celebrity worship. I’m not talking about how some book distributors will post pictures of themselves handing a book to an awkward “deer in the headlights” movie star or politician (though, that’s questionable as well).
I’m talking about how some devotees will get all into celebrities (usually musicians) who appear to take to Krishna consciousness. We practically canonize them. Look at “The Famous Sriman George Harrison,” for example. Though we sainted him, he was hardly a saint.
And neither is “The Famous Sriman Boy George,” who has a long history of drug abuse, violence and, most recently, false imprisonment for chaining a male escort to the wall of his apartment. Bow down, Mister!!
So, let’s set the record straight, Boy George is not a devotee. He really never was. He was attracted to Krishna and wrote a song about it. Sometimes he invites (or tolerates) the devotees to come up on stage with him to help sing his cute little song. And then he chains some dude to the wall of his apartment. Jaya, prabhu!
We should really be careful about celebrities. I think a lot of discrimination is in order. Celebrities will almost always continue their insanely materialistic lifestyle.
Sure, they have a voice that millions of people listen to, but when they become disenchanted with Krishna consciousness (or certain institutions promoting Krishna consciousness), that voice is just as loud and often much more forceful.
The Bhagavad-gita states: Whatever action is performed by a great man, common men follow in his footsteps. And whatever standards he sets by exemplary acts, all the world pursues. (Bg 3.21) And this is the verse quoted when handing a Gita to a celebrity or politician. And while what the Gita says is definitely true, celebrities and politicians aren’t great men. They have few exemplary acts and basically no standards.
Celebrities don’t make devotees (and politicians definitely don’t). Sincere, happy and honest devotees make devotees.
I checked in on Laxmi the other day. She is a downer cow and care has shifted from life saving to hospice. As for cause, quoting the above link, “Many types of injuries and diseases can produce a downer. Most commonly is calving difficulties (too big of calf to pass through the pelvis, mispresentation of calf, pulling calf too soon before cow was ready to deliver, cow strained too long to get the calf out).” In Laxmi’s case, the breech twinned birth as a heifer causing a prolonged labor.
This is being difficult for some devotees to accept, typically those who whose only relationship with the cows has been through an agrarian romantic vision and milk consumption or a passing acquaintance at festivals. Devotees who have been, as is typical for modern Americans, shielded from the reality of death.
Death is never pretty. It has been said that it is easy to die, but hard to watch someone die.
She is in a stall at the temple barn so it is possible to see her there and chant with her. Chanting will do her more good than hassling her caretakers to take futile measures that will only cause her pain.
She needs a miracle at this point not further veterinarian care, and chanting will be the best method for devotees to feel like they are doing something and for Laxmi to have an auspicious passing or for some miracle to occur.
I will develop this more on the Brijabasi Spirit in the next couple of days, but have been lax in posting here so wanted to update this topic as I have already addressed her problems here.

Regarding vegetarianism vs. veganism, man is the only species that drinks the milk of another species. All other species drink the milk of the mothers of their own species until they are weaned. Cow's milk is the perfect food—if you're a baby calf!
To mass produce cow's milk on a large scale via factory farming, cows have to be kept continually pregnant, giving birth, and lactating. The cows are genetically bred to produce excess cow's milk for humans. Male cows (bulls) are useless to the dairy industry, so they become veal. By supporting the dairy industry, one indirectly supports cow killing.
There was an article on veganism on namahatta.org by a vegan British devotee, in which she pointed out that Lord Krishna loves the cows, not the milk. Again, by supporting the dairy industry, one indirectly supports cow killing. Vegetarians do cause far less animal cruelty than meat-eaters, but Srila Prabhupada's teachings on non-violence would carry greater weight if we went vegan.

AFP - Wednesday, November 14 03:53 am CHENNAI, India (AFP) - An Indian farmer has married his dog in a bid to overcome what he believes is a curse caused by him having stoned to death two mating dogs in his rice field, press reports said.
The 34-year-old farmer, identified as Selvakumar from Sivaganga district in the southern state of Tamil Nadu, fell on bad fortune 15 years ago after killing the dogs and hanging their carcasses from a tree.
A few days later, his hearing and speech were impaired and he was unable to walk.
Doctors were clueless, but an astrologer finally told him he was cursed by the spirits of the dogs he had killed. He could undo the curse only if he married a dog and live with it, the soothsayer said.
After a long search for a 'suitable bride', Selvakumar managed to get a four-year-old mongrel bitch from a friend and had a fully-fledged Hindu wedding in front of villagers and elders on Sunday, eyewitnesses said.
The canine bride, named Selvi, was adorned in a sari and flowers and brought to the temple by village women. A Hindu priest conducted the ceremony.
The reports, however, said Selvi the dog attempted to make a run for it -- apparently due to the large crowds -- but was eventually tracked down and returned to her new 'husband'.
"The dog is only for lifting the curse and after that, he plans to get a real bride," a friend of the groom said.
Many thanks to all of you who are used to my regular daily blogs and have written concerned emails wondering what on earth has happened to me.
At present I am in Sri Vrindavan, the land of Lord Krishna. I have only 4 days remaining on this tour. Things have been so wonderfully, deliciously hectic that I just haven't had time to publish; and add to that the phenomena of not having an internet connection in my residence since leaving Sri Mayapur.
The upside is that I have over 3000 photos. So you'll get to see a lot of what went on during my whirlwind spiritual renaissance. Thanks for your patience.
Oh, by the way, you won't find me in the above picture.

Tuesday, 13 November, is Srila Prabhupada’s disappearance day from this mortal world and his return into nitya-lila. It is the thirtieth anniversary. Wow—that is close to half my life! How things have changed for me, in the lives of so many devotees present then, and in the movement.
I was a young man of twenty-seven years, and now I am fifty-seven. I became a devotee at nineteen-and-a half, so really I had about six-and-a-half years of him being physically present. During those years most of us never considered that he could leave us at any time, though he did remind us of this fact. Somehow we just expected him to always be present with us. If only I would have known!
Frankly I wasn’t really able to properly take advantage of his company when he was here. I was too young—immature really—and not eager enough to put relevant questions to him, or to be personally motivated to serve the mission from my own realization. My necessity for making spiritual advancement was weak, and truly, necessity rules our life.
"Then I went to the govardhana hill festival. That is a huge pile of sweets you can see.
I sat down and chanted for a while
Then I danced until I passed out from dizziness. This photo was a mistake, but I think it captures the frenetic energy nicely."
Yes it does. Thankyou.
The BBT recently held their first Annual Art Seminar in Vrndavana. Rasanandini was one of the lucky inaugural attendees this year and according to the organisers was a hard working participant. As you can see from the shots below each artist looked to be totally engrossed in their work.
You can see Rasa's latest work in these shots I took just before heading off to Noida. The block of flats at Radhe Dhama where we stayed turned out to be the location of their studio so I popped in to get some shots once I worked out what they were up to.
If you look closely you can see the picture that Rasa was working on. She told us yesterday she had brought it to the point where it could be hung. When I saw it, it looked great. I can hardly wait to see the finished product. She's on her way back to Australia today.
One should simply surrender unto the feet of the Lord to make a solution to all miseries of life.

Just some thoughts and updates as to what I am up to and new things that are happening.
I have been able to attend the Religious educational Conference here in Wales as a guest of ISKCON educational services, the meeting was good and it gave me a chance to talk to the devotee in charge of educational resources in the UK. The outcome was very positive and help is being offered in training and what is needed to carry out a successful schools program, my first SACRE meeting later on this month
My weekend plans went a little stray as it was the first time I have been able to do any long journeys, my thanks to The Manor who gave me accommodation at short notice this was very much appreciated and the service that was given me to do the following day which was very blissful. It is nice also to here that the
I did manage to catch up with many devotees and also Maha Vishnu Swami and although some of his news was disappointing as we discussed the complications in getting recommendation for initiation and the problems faced by many devotees who are in a similar situation to myself in the room some three devotees faced the same problems there Gurus feel that they have reached the point initiate but due to circumstances cannot get the right recommendation, or at least from the recognized list of those who are authorized to recommend) their appears to be more politics in ISKCON than in the houses of parliament overall though despite the blow of being without a someone to recommend me for initiation as requested by my own Guru maharaja it was a very encouraging time as we sat drinking tea and eating Govardhana Hill (Lovely); I did however miss the program he had invited me to at a new cow protection project here in east Sussex so sadly no pictures and I believe a lovely time was had by all.
Of note also is the announcement the Dina Dyadra who is setting up the temple in Brighton is leaving Brahmacarya life for that of Grhastha and will soon be marrying Jennifer; they are all saddened by the imminent loss of Sarah so we wish her all the best.
It is also with great sadness that Wales is losing more devotees from a long list I personally have noted over the past few years; I would like to say that the problems are varied but they aren’t and are easily identified. The problem is not helped by the growing number of devotees who live in or near to both the Cardiff and Swansea preaching centres but don’t attend (the same reasons are given) The solution however is very complex and I personally would not like to comment or make any suggestions so as not to cause any offence or misunderstanding however as there is a major need of devotees here in Wales a solution is more than ever vital as the figures of those who have come to or have left Wales outstrips the number of full time preaching centre devotees. However I am lead to believe that this phenomenon is not unusual within ISKCON.
Also may I take the opportunity to thank those devotees who have been encouraging me to continue to write this blog and I will keep in mind the many thought s and suggestions.
