Writing to Krishna. Running to You with my eyes closed. Praying to You with the mahamantra. Not knowing what to do for You. The best thing is to give people Krishna consciousness. That is better than food or medicine or weapons or “education.” Give them direct Krishna consciousness. There are tactics for that. They used to do it largely by dressing as civilians and approaching people to sell them Prabhupada’s books. Dressing as devotees and going in the streets to sing the Hare Krishna mantra. Lectures in the colleges. Giving out prasadam to materially needy people. Festivals on Sunday at the temple or ratha yatras in the streets and parks. Setting the example by running a “self-sufficient” farm, growing crops and protecting cows (never really done self-sufficiently). Bringing people to the holy dhamas of India. Teaching astanga yoga. Holding lectures, kirtanas and feasts in your home and inviting neighbors and friends. Publishing books and Back to Godhead magazine. Selling CDs, videos on the Internet; running a webpage on the Internet. Building temples. And many more tactics performed by enthusiastic preachers. read more - part 8>>

This February 25 saw the second-ever Maha Abhishekha, or great bathing ceremony, of ISKCON Mayapur’s Pancha-Tattva deities at the West Bengal community’s annual Gaura Purnima festival. The Pancha-Tattva, comprising of Sri Chaitanya and his four associates Nityananda Prabhu, Advaita Acharya, Gadadhara Pandita, and Srivasa Thakura, are the 15th century founders of Gaudiya Vaishnavism, the basis for ISKCON. |
Two ISKCON Mayapur residents, Jahnudvipa Dasa from Denmark and his wife Braja Sevaki Dasi from Australia, were badly injured on March 12 when their taxi collided head-on with a truck near Kolkata airport in the early hours of the morning. |
ISKCON devotees and the Sri Vaishnava followers of 11th century saint Ramanujacarya came together this March 8 for a “Peace Walk” in Chennai, South India. The event, organized by ISKCON Chennai and Sri Vaishnava group Saran Darshan, drew over one thousand devotees eager to promote world peace and prosperity. |
Srila Bhakti Vaibhava Puri Goswami, one of the foremost Gaudiya Vaishnava teachers of the 20th century, has been given a traditional Samadhi burial in the holy city of Jagannath Puri. Puri Maharaja, who left this world at Vishakhapatnam, Andra Pradesh on March 3, was transported to Puri later that evening in a refrigated van driven by devotees from the Shri Krishna Chaitanya Mission, which he founded in 1966. |
Hundreds of devotees from all over the world, including ISKCON gurus Chandramauli Swami and Maha-Vishnu Swami, gathered outside the Radha-Madhava Chandradoya temple in ISKCON Mayapur this March 7 to celebrate Gangapuja – the occasion of the celestial Ganges’ descent from heaven to earth. |
This March 11, ISKCON devotees in Ludhiana, Punjab, celebrated the appearance of Sri Chaitanya Mahaprabhu, who founded Gaudiya Vaishnavism in the fifteenth century. The festival, popularly known as Gaura Purnima, drew a large, enthusiastic crowd of devotees and congregational members. |
On March 5, the Tajik parliament adopted in the final reading a new law on religious organizations. The new law is much less liberal than one adopted in 1992. Although deputies who spoke in favor of its passage said it treats all faiths equally, it in fact gives priority to the Hanafi school of Islam, to which 90 percent of the population of Tajikistan adheres. |

"Everyone of you should be thoroughly convinced of the power of the Hare Krsna mantra to protect you in all circumstances and chant accordingly at all times without offense. Then advancement will be swift and you will gradually come to see everything clearly so that you may act for the pleasure of the Lord without uncertainty. When one is spontaneously engaged in this way, always in the service of the Lord and anxious to avoid all mundane activities, he is actually experiencing the taste of bliss in Krsna consciousness."From a letter to Damodara - January 10, 1971

“Sex is like a Ferrari. If someone gave me a brand-new Ferrari I wouldn’t take it off-roading. It would trash the car. I would only drive it where it’s supposed to be driven…Sex is a God-given gift. What’s happened to sex, like this Ferrari, is we’ve taken it off-road. Many people have taken this God-given gift and used it in a God-forbidden way. It’s going to be great for a while but I don’t think its going to have ultimate spiritual result until we do it the way God intended it. One woman, one man in a marriage,” he said. |

Q: In facing difficulty and adversity what is it that sustains you most and gives you so much courage?
A: In facing adversity I try to accept that what happens it the arrangement of providence. Somehow there is something good to learn in the adverse situation. At least we have the opportunity not to despair but to depend on Krishna. Everything is happening to us by his will even if we cannot understand it. We should not think we are victims of unfair treatment by the Lord, but take shelter in Him and beg him for the courage to survive the adversity. Ultimately we cannot protect ourselves from infamy, decease, poverty or even death. We should practice chanting Hare Krishna. Knowing I am tiny and Krishna is great and that he is my only protector is the way I sustain myself.

Sridhara Swami explains that bees are victims of smell, being sometimes being swallowed up at night by flowers; male elephants are victims of sex desire when hunters display female elephant before a large camouflaged pit; deer are victims of sound when their human predators blow a bugle known as a deer call; fish are victims of their sense of taste when they bite the bait on a fisherman's hook; moths are victims of sight when the hurtle at flames that instantly destroy them.
Similarly, human beings are constantly victimized by all five organs of acquisition.

Reflections on Lord Caitanya
What does Lord Caitanya mean to me? (From the notes of HH Kadamba Kanana Swami Maharaja)
*
I’m seeing Lord Caitanya as invisibly always there- at least I’m thinking of Him like that. When I think of a verse in the Caitanya Caritamrta, which is katahncana smrte yasmin duskaram sukuram bhavet, that by the mercy of Lord Caitanya, difficult things become easy; that I am concluding that Lord Caitanya is there to block out difficulties.
*
(Story of Ajamila): the description is not as graphic as what you might see today; today you might see things that are a lot worse than what Ajamila saw and we are generally not as qualified as Ajamila. So Srila Prabhupada is addressing this point and he is saying then, what is the chance of the modern man? But it is because Lord Caitanya is there that things are going on and somehow or other that we can do what Ajamila couldn’t do. Lord Caitanya is sort of blocking all the attacks of Maya; He gets in between all the time and we are walking around thinking, ‘I’m getting pretty advanced! I’m really quite a great devotee now!’ Lord Caitanya saves us again and again. He saves us all the time. He’s personal, He’s very much with us, He’s very active in our life.
*
He is so terribly generous; He couldn’t serve prasadam for less than 3-5 people. Even if there was one, He’s got enough for three because His hand cannot serve less, He cannot do it, He has to give more, it’s just His nature to be overwhelmingly generous.
*
That generosity extends beyond giving things because giving things is not completely generous. In the end generosity means giving everything- giving yourself. So Lord Caitanya especially gives Himself to His devotee- very much so. Krsna also, but Lord Caitanya much more! Still much more easily available to His devotee.
*
Therefore Lord Caitanya is very much present in our life- very much so. One has to meditate on the mercy of Lord Caitanya.
An open invitation:
sri-krsna-caitanya-daya karaha vicara
vicara karate cite pabe camatkara
If you are meditating on the mercy of Lord Caitanya then in your heart, you will find it to be wonderful and you will be amazed.
It’s the key to understand Lord Caitanya, in approaching Lord Caitanya. How to approach Lord Caitanya? Think about His mercy! That is what Krsnadas Kaviraja Gosvami says. Understand how Lord Caitanya is more and merciful, and think about it, meditate, and the more you do, the more amazed one becomes in the heart. The more the heart becomes involved, then spiritual life becomes very easy. To do something and if the heart is not into it is called DUTY and duty is such a thing…in this age especially, we don’t like duty. So the heart must be into it. It’s the key to be a devotee of Lord Caitanya…
Vrindavan: Myriad colours of Holi have drenched Mathura and Vrindavan in joyful festivities. Though Holi is a single day affair elsewhere in the country, for the Brijwasis (people of Vrindavan where Lord Krishna spent his childhood days), the festival is celebrated for 16 days to commemorate the divine love of Radha for Lord Krishna or 'Dhulandi'. |
As I read celebrity atheist Christopher Hitchens's recent Newsweek attack on the pope in particular and Roman Catholicism in general, I remembered an incident that happened when I was in the U.K. in early January. Walking out of London's Victoria Station, I was stopped by a TV reporter who asked me what I thought about the British atheists' newest ad campaign. |

Ever see a bluebird up close? They’re absolutely gorgeous.
The color of their feathers is something like luminous royal purplish blue with gold around the edges. They’re so beautiful.
The other day, we saw a bluebird up close. We were staying at a friend’s house. They have a woodstove with a metal chimney.
Our fifteen year old friend Gaura, son of the house’s owners, told us that one time a bird flew down the chimney, and when they opened the large, double glass doors next to the stove to offer the bird its freedom, it flew to the other side of the doors instead, and kept banging on the bay windows until everybody got brooms to chase it out, and when that failed they finally had to go outside and remove the screens on all the windows before the bird would fly away.
It had stubbornly refused to simply fly out the completely unobstructed, more brightly lit, larger opening offered by the open double glass doors right next to the stove it flew out of.
My wife and I were chanting in the house one morning, minding our own heavenly business. We then both heard a strange sound we had never heard before.
If someone had asked me, “Did it sound like something flapping its wings down the length of a twenty-foot length of metal stovepipe?” I would’ve said, “Yeah! That’s exactly what it sounded like.” But, at the time, I had never heard such a sound, so I didn’t know what the hell.
We didn’t’ hear anything for a while after the initial weird sound effect, so we went back to our rounds, with slightly puzzled looks on our faces.
I sat next to the stove, in case the sound had actually come from there. I thought, maybe whatever it was, if it was some kind of bird actually flying down this chimney, maybe it flew out again, because the noise had totally stopped.
Then I heard what was unmistakably the sound of a bird flapping away like crazy inside the stove itself. It must have fallen down the chimney, smacked its head on the stove floor to the point of stun, then revived and tried to bust out.
“OK,” I said, having heard how to deal with the situation. “I’ll open these doors. You stand right here and wave this broom, in case he goes for the windows, and I’ll encourage him to go out the doors.“
My wife, dutiful as a soldier, valiantly took up her post, waving the broom back and forth into the space above the doors in the high-ceilinged house.
I opened the glass doors, allowing Mr. Bird a spectacular view of an extremely reasonable looking exit: a clear shot right back out into the backyard. No windowpanes in the way, no walls, no doors, no brooms waving around to obstruct his flight plan, just pure bright, clear backyard air.
I opened the doors to the stove and saw him for the first time as he flew out: the most gorgeous male bluebird I had ever seen, just like I described him. I thought of the elusive Bluebird of Happiness, how rare he was to be seen.
Flying easily around my wife’s graceful broom-swinging barricade, he went straight for the windows, bashing himself again and again into the glass in the alcove around the dining room table.
“Shit.” I said. This was exactly what Gaura said would happen. “Come on! I opened the friggin doors for you!! What the hell?!”
My wife tried to gently nudge him away from the window and toward the open doors with her broom, but no use. Our bird friend, the emblem of happiness itself, wanted nothing more than to slam himself against the closed, screened windows with full force.
“Damn it!” I shouted in frustration. “Gimme that broom!”
“Maybe you should take the screens off,” my wife suggested.
“Awwww, all right. Here, keep him in here,” I said, handing her back the broom.
I ran outside, watching my wife continue to try to nudge Mr. Happiness toward the opening I was trying to make in the screens.
After pawing my way through a year’s worth of spider–and-God-knows-what-else-kind-of-web-making-insect’s dusty, sticky, gross webbing, I pried the screen off, and watched as my wife coaxed the King of All Gorgeous Creatures one last time towards the new opening in the dining room window area, the one leading to the rest of his unincarcerated, liberated bird life.
I stepped back inside, and he flew away.
We thus chased the Bluebird of Happiness out of our lives.
Afterwards, I was thinking this is what it’s like for a spiritual teacher to guide his disciples out of materialism. We’re used to going after whatever it is we’re used to going after, whether its our own reflections, or a dim patch of what looks bright and attractive to us, even if it’s just another illusion thrown at us by the power of illusory energy.
The guru points us toward a clear opening and says, “Here’s the open door to freedom, you idiot! Go!”
And we head straight for the freaking window.
The guru gives us instruction, which unsettles us. He tries to get us, for our own damn good, to go out the wide open doors to a life of full spiritual freedom. We refuse. We perch tightly to our perches, slamming ourselves into the barricades, and curse the very ones who want nothing more than our own freedom and good fortune.
“Why are you hassling me, man? Why don’t you just leave me the hell alone?” God!”

Experts say these colours can harm our skin, hair and can cause respiratory problems too. Holi is synonymous with smiles, gaiety and colours. However, the chemicals used in coours can be a dampener on spirits. |
Dear Krishna Nama Prabhu
Please accept my humble obeisances. All glories to Srila Prabhupada!
Thanks for the nice weblog you have been doing for Gurumaharaja!
Still I feel there is a need for a more comprehensive website. I f you kindly
grant me the permission we will start a website. I have spoken to
Gurumaharaja, who said he has no objection, but I would have to get your
permission first. Thus this letter to ask for your permission.
In this regard, if you do agree, please post the following on your weblog:
We are starting a website for HH Mahavishnu Swami, based in the world
headquarters of Sri Dhama Mayapur. Our aim is to expand Maharaja’s preaching
activities via the internet, and also make more information available regarding
his projects and activities, especially to his disciples worldwide.
We therefore request to have at least one representative from each country
where he preaches to be responsible for sending updates on Gurumaharaja’s
activities in that particular country. Such a person must be a steady, mature
devotee and disciple of Gurumaharaja, who also has easy access to the internet
and ability to send reports/photographs/lectures/videos. Some command of
English is necessary, though posts will be edited and corrected.
We already have the following volunteers:
DR Congo - Bal-Nitai dasa
Nepal - Keshava dasa
Mayapur/India - Ila devi dasi
Holland - Sankirtanaika-pitarau dasa
If you wish to be part of this team, please send your details and country to:
mvs.website@yahoo.com
This is just to ensure we get regular updates from all the parts of the world,
from reliable sources.
Of course we request ALL disciples and well-wishers to assist, send in reports,
photographs etc. as well as ideas, suggestions and comments.
Please bear in mind that Gurumaharaja has specific desires for how his website
should look – it should contain a large amount of Srila Prabhupada’s pictures,
writings and materials, and also serve a preaching purpose and not just be some
type of personal glorification. He wants the website to attract people to
Krishna/Srila Prabhupada and not just himself. So we have to keep this in
mind.
Thank you!
Your servant
Ila devi dasi

Bento is a Japanese way of preparing lunch boxes. It is mostly made up of rice, fish, meat, and egg. But now a days, bento has evolved, and it has lots of varieties. Japanese moms actually designed bento boxes for thier kids in order to encourage the them to eat a variety of foods. Also, it helps in tricking the kids to eat foods that they don’t like to it at all, and one classic example is the greeny leafy healthy veggie. I used to religously eat my bentos when I was at gradeschool, even if it includes the veggie that I totally despised before, the bitter gourd.
Lately, I’d been longing to make some bentos, but the only thing that stops me from moving my butt is my laziness. Then one day, my husband and I needs to go to Tampa for some business, and he told me to packed some lunch since it’s gonna be a long day (duh! he just hate to eat outside,LOL). While checking the cooler to see if what can I whip from our almost bare fridge, making bento lunch boxes pops in my head right away.
Making bento is actually easy. You don’t need to make it fancy and intricate as the Japanese folks does, but to have the basic things in making it is a big help. So, for the basics, you just need rice (sushi rice), nori (dried seaweeds/sushi wrapper), some veggies and fruits, small containers (like a small paper/cupcake cup). You also need some toothpicks to sometimes hold the food in place, and of course your bento box ( I just use the regular rectangular box). All of these are very easy to avail at your local Asian store. Once you have all of it, then you’re good to go.
When it comes on how to arrange your bento, there’s no pattern at all if which comes first. Whatever suits your needs, then go for it! All you need is your creativity and imagination, and just do things out of the box! You can make pakoras or samosas and have it arrange anyway you want. You can also put some accents for more colors, like cherry tomatoes, grapes, or even m n’ms will do.
If you’ve never tried making a bento box, now is that time to do it, hahaha! If you have problem with your kids on letting them eat some healthy foods, do it the bento way, and I’m pretty much sure it’ll work.
For more detailed steps and how tos in making a bento, I suggest to visit this site, http://lunchinabox.net/. If you have more questions about this, please don’t hesitate to ask. I’m just a click away, and I’ll be happy to be of service.
Some of the simple bentos that I made for my husband
.
Contents: Seaweeds rolls, onigiri, veggie balls, kiwi, strawberry, candy, cherry tomatoes, and grapes
Contents: Rice balls, veggie dogs, tofu, vegetarian brownies, gulabjamon, cherry tomatoes, and grapes.
Contents: Rice rolls w/ cream cheese, tofu, veggie balls with broccoli and marinara sauce, edamame, and kiwis.
Contents: Rice rolls, zucchini pakora, broccoli, and veggie dogs.
Contents: Rice balls, steamed asparagus, spring rolls, and stir-fried noodles.
And that’s me pigging out,
LOL!
Here is also a video of cute bento boxes. I’m sure we can get an idea or two from this video.
Several devotees requested a faster way to download the files at iskconmedia.com
We compressed all ebooks as zip files so they are easier to download. They are organized in categories so you dont have to download everything if you dont want.
These are the categories :
Don’t forget that you can also download many mp3s and photos too.

There is no direct engineering by the Lord for the creation and destruction of the material world. What is described in the Vedas about His direct interference is simply to counteract the idea that material nature is the creator.
- Srimad Bhagavatam 2.10.45
The idea of describing God as directly intervening is not to empirically establish that as fact, but rather to convey the understanding that as the indirect cause He is the ultimate cause.
Science reveals more and more that He is not directly involved. As various religions try to assert that He is directly involved (through doctrines of Intelligent Design or Creationism that rely on these stories as literal, emprical truths) they undermine their own position.
Vedic metaphysics kicks off at the point of asking the question: "Is the universe self-manifested, or does it have a cause?"
Vedic metaphysics answer the question: "No, it is not its own cause. There is a higher order of magnitude."
Sankaracarya put it thus: "Brahman is substance and matter is category".
Empirical science is the investigation into the sub-categories of matter. However, this is only one category of knowledge. The epistemological position of taking this knowledge as the all-in-all is known in Sanskrit as avidya, or "knowledge in the mode of ignorance".
Chaos increases
One of the arguments raised against evolution is that "it violates the second law of thermodynamics".
The second law of thermodynamics states that entropy always increases. This means that in any closed system heat and information always leak out, and so the system runs down. Entropy is a measure of disorder. It's always increasing. Among other things this fundamental principle of the universe leads to the irreversibility of time.
So evolution seems to violate this principle. How do things become more ordered over time?
Evolutionists have their response to this, usually something along the lines of: it is not a closed system — total entropy increases — but there is a local reversal of entropy.
A biological organism is a local reversal of chaos
This is true. The body itself is a local reversal of entropy. Take a look around. Everywhere things are breaking down over time. This is the nature of this universe. In the Vedic scripture it says that in the spiritual realm, "time is conspicuous by its absence". In Bhagavad-gita Krishna says: "Time I am, destroyer of worlds" (this verse was quoted by Robert Oppenheimer when he witnessed the detonation of the Manhattan project's first atomic bomb).
This feature of time is the measurement of decay. Increase of entropy (decay) and the passage of material time are closely linked. The phenomenon of material time arises from the principle of increasing entropy.
We see it everywhere - the rooms of the house gets messier, the outside of the house gets dirtier, the car breaks down, we have to have a shower everyday to get clean again. Chaos, disorder, and decay increase by the force of time (or time turns by the increase of chaos, the two are intrinsically linked).
However, there are some glaring exceptions to this. Somehow, a bunch of material elements assemble into a complex biological organism. They assume a shape, a form, and then perform complex tasks, often reversing entropy on a larger scale, such as making a building, landscaping, or engaging in other complex, information-increasing behaviour.
What is it that causes this startling local reversal of entropy? What is going against the flow of the universe?
The soul provides information to an otherwise disordered environment
Vedic metaphysics explain this as the action of the contact of the soul with material nature. The nature of the soul is sat-cid-ananda. Cit means "knowledge". The soul is a source of information, which reverses entropy locally. When the soul is no longer in contact with the assembled elements of the material body, we see entropy reassert itself, and elements again follow the natural course of this universe to chaos and disorder.
The local reversal of entropy in the body of a biological organism is produced by the soul.
The soul and increasing genetic complexity
The other day Shiva das asked how the genome could become more complex - how more genetic information can be added during the evolution of material bodies. The soul is pumping information into the environment during its contact with the material body. In such a situation there is already a huge local reversal of entropy going on. While ordinarily the micro-effect is one of tendency to chaos (decay) and the macro-effect is one of loss of information (devolution), due to the contact of the soul entropy is reversed. In this way genetic information can increase.
It is not simply random mutation, because the body, by definition, as a local reversal of entropy, is the complete opposite of random.
The Supersoul, the Sun, and the reversal of chaos
Another significant source of local reversal of entropy is the Sun. The Sun has been recognized as the representation of the Supreme Soul by all human cultures. The Sun causes the local reversal of entropy that makes life possible on this planet. Otherwise the universe is a dark place.
This input of energy and information into the universe that causes the otherwise unstructured elements to variegate is the action of the Supersoul, the Paramatma. The Vedas describe the initial state of the universe as heat death [wikipedia], a state of maximum entropy where all energy is equally distributed and there is no flow of energy from one area or state to another. This is called in Sanskrit pradhana. The Second Canto of the Srimad Bhagavatam describes the agitation of the pradhana through the entrance of the Lord into the manifested universe as the time factor. This causes the elements to differentiate. Actually the two are inseparable. Time arises from the collapse of the elements back into an undifferentiated state as much as time is the cause. The local reversal of entropy around the body of a biological organism shows the power of the soul to reverse entropy on a small scale, however, only the Supreme Soul is able to effect the massive reversal of entropy that causes the universe to start, and to provide the ongoing input of information and energy via the Sun that allows it to go on.
Realizations from meditation on the universe
By thinking about the local reversal of entropy of the body you can get some realization of the nature and power of the soul. By thinking about the reversal of entropy involved in creating and sustaining the universe you can get some idea of the magnitude of difference between the individual souls and the Supersoul.
The Hare Krishna Temple will be celebrating Holi this Sunday, March 15th and an open invitation goes out to one and all to join us for this colourful event. We have been regularly announcing at our recent Sunday Feasts that there will be no throwing of coloured powders during the festival (it causes a very big mess) but that the festival would certainly be grand in nature.

Dear Prabhus, Please accept my humble obeisances. All glories to Srila Prabhupada!
Yesterday in Parammatta Sydney one westernised indian lady came to me while i was on books and said i want to buy a set of srimad Bhagavatam. I almost fell on the ground in shock. I couldn't belive someone wants a set while i'm struggling to sell even one book.
Then i asked how she knew about the Srimad Bhagavatam? she said i gave her a science of Self Realization last month. She read it cover to cover and she loved it. Belive it or not she was a born again Christian before reading the SSR. Now she is a vegetarian, chanting Hare Krishna, came to our parammatta Saturday feast and took her set of SB(against the will of her still born again Christian husband). She even changed her son's name from Joshua to Arjuna.
All glories to H.H Devamrita swami who inspires me to distribute books and all glories to Srila Prabhupada who wrote the books.

What a transcendental sight! In the park near to the Lotus building, there were three Pandals put up for the bathing ceremony of Lord Caitanya. Each had a bathing sthana and all was tastefully decorated with a special kind of rare flowers and an opulence of garlands. From distant we heard a kirtan approaching, escorting the golden hued Lords on fancily decorated Singhasanas: two different sized Mahaprabhus were carried to the left Pandal for the male devotees’ bathing.
In the material world we tend to take things for granted when we succeed at something. At such times one is prone to think, "I have done it. I have won." In fact one should be grateful that Krsna has allowed for victory over material nature. Such triumphs are easily reversed. In the latter portion of the Bhagavad-gita we find three verses that recommend being equipoised in happiness or distress. Most people blame God for their misfortunes and credit themselves when destiny appears to smile on them.
I recieved this article from my aunt in New Zealand, and I couldn’t help but share it. While I was reading it, I remember a phrase I’ve heard from one of Ravindra Svarup prabhu’s lectures. It may not be the exact words, but the meaning and contents are the same:
“When we become a devotee, we work hard to become a perfect devotee. But, what’s next after we become a perfect devotee? That is we should work hard to become a human being.”
Remembering this, made me realize that most of the time we forgot that we’re also human beings who are working on the path of self-realization. Along that path, we’ll make mistakes and make progress, and along that path we forgot compassion because we’re too focused with our “philosophical” pursuits.
Caring for Every Devotees

We humbly request the prayers of all the Vaisnavas for their speedy recovery and spiritual well-being of two Mayapur residents, Jahnudvipa prabhu from Denmark, and his wife Brajasevaki dasi from Australia, who were badly injured in a car crash at Madhyamgram just near the Kolkata airport on the morning of 12th March 2009. Jahnudvipa has broken legs and possible internal injuries and is listed as very critical. Brajasevaki was unconscious with facial and leg injuries but not believed to be as bad as her husband. Both are now in the Apollo hospital in Kolkata.

Please note that if it's raining we'll take a rain check this week. SMS 0431 929 675 for confirmation on the day if it's looking dodgy.
Next week I'm taking a couple of days of work to go on tour with Dave Stringer.

Dave is staying at our place next week, and Prahlad and I are going to go down to Byron Bay to do the sound for his concert there on Tuesday night, and then on Wednesday night I'm playing bass for him at the Yoga Den in West End.
I'm totally stoked about this. I love Dave's music, especially Aja Uttama, a track he recorded as a duet with Karnamrita dasi. Really looking forward to it.
If you are in Byron, come along on Tuesday night - it's at the Byron Yoga Center.
If you're in Brisbane, definitely come along on Wednesday night. The concert starts at 8pm, and Param Satya is cooking, so there will be "light vegetarian refreshments" afterwards. More details over at atmayoga.com.au.
I admire people who take religion seriously enough to challenge it. And I suspect God would too, if he thought ads on the sides of buses or atheist thoughts for the day were as worthy of his time as helping people find meaning in their lives and peace in their souls. Perhaps if we are confronted with better questions about the meaning and value of religion, we will be forced to find better answers.

Big it up for the new atheist evangelists!
The week before Gaura Purnima, I was praying to Krishna to please let me do some service, for I’d been completely absorbed with work and school. Five days before the event, I got a call from Mother Nataka. She was asking me if I can do some cake for Radharani’s club fund raising for the temple. The moment I heard her request, I just said yes right away. I didn’t even asked her for the details because I was just overwhelmed with joy that Krishna fulfilled my desire for doing devotional service. I may sounds exaggerated here, but having the chance to do some service (in any possible little ways) is something that I really value, for it rarely comes to me. With my crazy busy life of going to school and working at same time, doing my part as a wife, as a friend, and as a daughter, now you know why I’m thankful. I don’t even mind not having time for myself. I arrive a little late at the temple because I was having some last minute fixture for the cake (I also fallen asleep a bit while fasting, LOL), but when I got there, it was all worth it because the devotees were happy with the cake. Matajis from the Radharani club told me that they don’t want to cut the cake because it’s too cute to be eaten
. Anyway, they decided to auctioned the cake (as a whole piece) in order to raised more funds, and luckily an Indian couple bought it for a $100. I wasn’t there during the auction, so I missed the chance to asked the couple if I could have a tiny slice of the cake just to have a taste of it, LOL!
I don’t have money to donate for the temple, since I’m just a poor student. But, doing this somehow made me feel useful, and not just eating for free on Sundays. Thank you dear blue boy.
NOTE: I know my Lord Caitanya cartoon character doesn’t look at his best, but I promise to make him better next time.
Radhe Syam with their ever magnanimous presence.
Sri Sri Gaura Nitai! The cutest ever.
Jaya Nrsimhadeva! I just love His loving eyes.
He build a house in which the whole world can leave. Jaya Prabhupada!

Copied from, Our Srila Prabhupada, a Friend to All: Early Contemporaries Remember Him, Srila Bhakti Vaibhava Puri Maharaj is describing a some of his memories of Srila Prabhupada:
“I first met Srila Swami Maharaja in Calcutta. He was living in his family home at Sita-Kanta Banarjee Lane. This was in the early 1940’s, around 1943, when he was maintaining his medicine shop distributing formulas he had discovered. I was sometimes going there to that address with Sridhara Maharaja and Kesava Maharaja and our Asrama Maharaja. We went there collecting for Navadvipa and for other business. That is when I was introduced to him.
“Even in those early days he told me about his future program for visiting America. He showed us the books he wrote on the Bhagavata and his magazine, Back to Godhead. We talked about many topics and associated together in those years until 1946 or so.
“He often asked me if I would go with him to America. He wanted me to leave the institution and become the sub-editor of his paper. I told him that I was part of the institution and also so young, I did not want to go to the foreign countries. In 1948 I was sent by Srila Tirtha Maharaja (Kunja Babu) to the Ramananda Gaudiya Matha on the Godavari River to be the temple president there. Srila Bhaktisiddhanta Sarasvati Thakura Prabhupada had installed the footprints of Mahaprabhu there in 1932. Some years after this Srila Swami Maharaja took the sannyasa order from Kesava Maharaja in Mathura. He left India from the Damodara Temple in 1965 and I did not meet him again until he returned from the Western countries.
“In 1971 he came to our Rajamundry Temple. I had wanted him to come to open the temple, so I had written to him, asking him to come. He wrote me back a letter that I still have here, agreeing to come. He also wrote that of almost all of his godbrothers, I was appreciating his preaching. Then he came to our celebration with some students, some sannyasis and brahmacaris. He stayed for one week. They also came to Vishakapatnam and he inaugurated our temple. For twenty days he stayed here with many of his senior students, but I don’t remember all their names.
“After this, Srila Swami Maharaja asked us to come back to Mayapura with him to attend the foundation-laying ceremony, which I helped to perform. He was inviting all of his godbrothers in Mayapura and I helped him at that time. Many came and saw the festival and attended the big feast. He received them. But then, some of them complained because he had accepted Prabhupada’s title. He told them how somehow he had allowed the students to call him that name, but it was an old issue and what to do now? We discussed this afterwards, and I told some of the godbrothers they should accept his name in light of all the service he has done to the world. Others in our lineage had taken that name, so what is the difference? When they all departed, prasada was distributed along with one book, cloth and five rupees. Krsna dasa Babaji was also present. I stayed there for seven days.
“Swami Maharaja requested our Ananda Prabhu to help in Mayapura with the cooking. Ananda Prabhu spent two years there with Maharaja as I had asked him. He was very strict, but could not deal successfully with the Western disciples and he left.
“Srila Swami Maharaja once asked me to speak to Visvanatha dasa, our old friend, who was at our village for seven days. He was Chief Minister from the brahmana community. Swami Maharaja wanted his disciples to be allowed to enter the Jagannatha Temple in Puri. He gave me one Krsna book, which I gave to Visvanatha. I asked him to please see if some change could be adopted there. However he was not a strong Chief Minister. He said he would try, but it was not done and he died. I saw Swami Maharaja another time when we all came to Calcutta for some big meetings.
“In 1977 we traveled with many pilgrims to Madhava Maharaja’s temple in Badrinarayana. Srila Swami Maharaja was staying for some time near Rishikesh. I went there along with Asrama Maharaja and some others. He was lying on the bed and was very glad to see us. One disciple, Hamsaduta dasa had written an article condemning a doctor scientist in Lanka who was an atheist. Even though Srila Swami Maharaja was lying down in weak health, we were all laughing. We took prasada and returned back.
“Once I said to him, ‘Maharaja, you should survive for ten more years.’ He answered, ‘How can I survive? You see my pulse.’ I saw that his pulse was not moving. I said, ‘Unless you stay, these Western disciples will not unite. They are strong-headed and they will fight. You must put them in line with our tradition. Previously I said, ‘Maharaja, you have established some gurus but Guru must be one.’ He said, ‘I have not selected. Only rtviks to act in my place now.’ I said, After your demise they will be gurus. Unless you bless a guru to sit on the Vyasaasana, they must go down.’ He said, ‘What to do? Everything is Krsna’s will.’ Then after some time in Vrndavana he passed away.
“He gave so much time and life-breath to serve his institution. No one else has done so much to improve our institution throughout the world. He received Sri Guru and Gauranga’s blessings. Once he said, ‘It is all my Prabhupada’s blessings. I have done my duty. Now the rest of it depends on the Lord.’ He labored hard. No other could do as he did in the foreign countries. He taught everything: how to cook, how to clean, how to prepare everything, how to decorate, and how to print books and include photos, book distribution. So much importance he placed on books , as our Prabhupada said. Big volumes with cover page he has invented. He possessed all devotional qualities. By his preaching in less than ten years — there is no other example of anyone doing like this — by introducing hari-nama in every town and village, he has fulfilled the prediction of Sri Caitanya Mahaprabhu.”
Hare Krishna.
I made this for dinner last night. It is a vegan tofu lasagna with shredded carrots, black olives, and brussels sprouts. The tofu mixture was mashed tofu (soft works best) and rosemary with a whole bunch of nutritional yeast mixed in. When I was merely vegetarian a lasagna was too expensive to create due to the high cost of cheese, but this vegan lasagne was real inexpensive to make! Perfect for this economy!

(PS- sorry the pics are a bit fuzzy, they are from my phone)

The east of England may be the most godless region of the UK, according to a "belief map" published by a theology thinktank today. Almost half of adults there believe the theory of evolution makes God obsolete, and more than 80% disagree with creationism and intelligent design, which propose that humans were created by God in the past 10,000 years, and that life owes its complexity to divine intervention.

My commentary: That's what happens when you "hard link" your metaphysics with a superseded empirical model.
Protein Deficiency
While the myth that vegans have a hard time getting enough protein is the most popular vegan health fallacy, there are plenty of others and most are misleading or just plum wrong.
Proteins are essentially the building blocks of living cells, they’re in every living thing whether it be a cucumber, a bacterium, or a cow. The reality to the protein problem is very much the opposite. Omnivores (those who eat both animal- and plant-food) should be worried for getting too much protein which, unlike fat, is not stored in excesses as energy, but toxins. Think about it, when have you ever heard of anyone having protein deficiency other than in countries where people are starving?
What is important is that a vegan should not be worried for having to work harder for nutrition any more than they should be overconfident for having an optimal diet. Like any change to a new diet, a vegan should consult a doctor and find the best way to make the transition. Make sure you’re getting plenty of healthy, diverse calories and you’ll likely be very healthy.
It’s hard to be a vegan in ____ (Insert city)
I’ve heard it plenty of times and I roll my eyes each time “I had to stop being vegan because I went to France,” “I live in a small town, I can’t be vegan.” I’ve spent plenty of time in foreign lands and small towns to know that it’s just another world. Sometimes you just don’t have the luxuries of natural foods stores or specialty items but it just takes a little more effort initially to slip into a vegan lifestyle that works for your town or visiting city without extra effort in the future.
First of all, no matter how small your city may be, your local grocery store is likely to have a decent array of produce. Forget about the veggie burgers and tofu and get accustomed to making creative dishes with fresh fruit and veggies.
You’d be surprised at how easy it is to get tofu or rice milk or whatever it is you crave. You may be the only person asking for it, but in a small town, that could represent 5% of the demand. Sooner or later maybe a family member or another patron picks it up too. Ask the store manager to order something that’s not too unfamiliar (soy milk but not soy cheese). If you don’t live in a particularly tiny city, check out vegguide.org which has a comprehensive listing of vegan and vegan-friendly establishments at the continent, country, state, and city level.
Vegans are Skinny
(Vegan bodybuilder Robert Cheeke, right; Kristopher “Topher” Flannery, below) I don’t want to discredit the fact that transitioning to a healthy vegan diet is great for weight loss, but understand you can still be vegan and put on weight–fat or muscle. The only technical stipulation for a vegan diet is the avoidance of animal products. Pepsi, chips, and crackers are still on the table as well as vegan cookies, cake, and pretty much anything other than cholesterol and animal fat that would plump you up on an omnivorous diet.
The myth that vegans can’t put on muscle is equally as preposterous. To put on muscle mass, a vegan needs weight-training exercise and a diet high in calories and protein just like any other human being. Protein can be found in almost all foods and is especially high in legumes, nuts, seeds, and some grains. In fact, due to its cholesterol-free and low fat nature, veganism is actually an optimal diet for bodybuilding.
